Just amazing…and another reason to have a blog

Just some quick results from one of my latests posts (though I really shouldn’t be surprised).

1. I added a new post to my blog…brand new category.  The timestamp on it is 12:20pm.

2. According to Hittail (www.hittail.com), I started getting traffic for that post at 2:27pm.

3. And I’m #12 for "define Google Analytics bounce rate" (as of 5:30pm, same day).

Yeah yeah, not the MOST searched-for term, but to get on the cusp of page 1 for something in just a hair over 2 hours has to count for something.  And we’ve already seen that someone was actually searching for that term.

Finally, keep in mind that this is with a blog that hasn’t had much activity on it until recently.  Powerful stuff.

If you don’t have a blog you’re nuts!

Ok, you’re right. I must be crazy to not have started a blog yet, but i have my doubts still. Yeah, it may be possible to rank for “long-tail” keywords but honestly, how much traffic should one expect from it.

It may be beneficial since any reader that shows up to your blog may become a loyal reader, but i guess it all depends on what type of blog you have and the amount of traffic you’re expecting.

Some other things about blogs is that they make it easy to add additional information down the road. You could have a blog that’s not updated very often, making it just about the same as a normal, static website.

But people are looking for new, updated info too…for just about any topic. Having a frequently updated site also helps position you as an expert on that topic. Presumably, if you can continue to write about a topic over time, you must be serious about it and have some sort of expertise to offer.

Ranking for long tail keywords is also useful but isn’t a silver bullet. You may only get a few visitors for some random long tail keyword, but if you have a large site full of useful content, those one-off visitors can add up over time.

    Just a few thoughts.
